Frederick County To Hold Week-Long Scrap Tire Collection

It begins on Saturday, Oct. 21st.

Frederick, Md (KM) A week-long Scrap Tire Collection is taking place starting this Saturday, October 21st at the Frederick County Landfill on Reichs Ford Road. The event lasts through Saturday, October 28th.

During that time, residents can drop off up to ten tires from cars, light trucks, and motorcycles. The County says the tires cannot be more than 33-inches. Rims can be left on or taken off.  Officials say tires over 33-inches will not be accepted.

The Scrap Tire Collection is only open to residents, and proof of Frederick County residency will be required. Tires from businesses and commercial vehicles will not be allowed.

The landfill will be open from 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday through Saturday,  its regular hours, for the tire collection.

It’s sponsored by the Frederick County Division of Solid Waste and Recycling as well as the Maryland Department of the Environment and the Maryland Environmental Service.

MDE has set a limit of just 85 tons of scrap tires for this event. When that limit is reached, the Scrap Tire Collection will come to an end. Residents are encouraged to drop off their scrap tires as early as possible.

Frederick County residents dropping off tires need to come off of Reichs Ford Road to Entrance Road, cross the scales and follow the signs to the drop off site. Drivers must obey all posted speed limits and other restrictions.
