The trials are funded by a donation from the Hurwitz Breast Cancer Fund.
Frederick, Md. (BW)- Clinical trials for new medicine are now available for breast cancer patients through Frederick Health.
The treatment being tested through these trials is designed to minimize the side effects of breast cancer medicine and decrease the chances of cancer coming back.
These trials open up avenues for more breast cancer treatment in Frederick. Previously, patients would have to travel to Baltimore or Washington D.C. to receive treatment.
There will be eight different trials open for patients. Dr. Heather Chalfin, Medical Director of Clinical Trials at Frederick Health Hospital, said the goal of these trials is to offer treatment for all stages and most types of breast cancer.
A donation from the Hurwitz Breast Cancer fund enabled a new breast cancer navigator position, which Dr. Chalfin said makes it easier to open up and manage these new trials.
