City Of Frederick Partnering With 15 Other Cities To Address Unemployment Rates And Job Vacancies

The City of Frederick was one of only 16 municipal governments accepted into this program.

Frederick, Md. (BW)- The City of Frederick is working to keep unemployment rates low through the Good Jobs, Great Cities Academy.

Frederick partners with the U.S. Department of Labor and the National League of Cities as part of the program.

Good Jobs, Great Cities selects 16 cities across the nation each year to help develop and innovate local workforce development.

The goal of this program is to lower unemployment rates and fill job vacancies.

Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor said for every 1.6 jobs available in the country, there is only one person to fill them.

He added, “We have extraordinarily low unemployment in the city of Frederick. We have the lowest unemployment in the country, in the state of Maryland, but we still have a job shortage.”

Frederick will work with partnering cities to best improve economic, labor and business needs.

The program began in July, 2023 and will continue until June, 2024.
