New Jersey Man Indicted For Murder By Frederick County Grand Jury

Frederick, Md (KM) A New Jersey man was indicted on Friday by the Frederick County Grand Jury for 1st-degree murder and 2nd-degree murder. Matthew Sidnely Watley, 46, of Sicklerville was arrested during the early morning hours of Sunday, September 24th in the parking lot of the Costco Depot on Intercoastal Drive in New Market. .

The Sheriff’s Office says Costco security reported a man inside of his truck yelling and screaming, and destroying its interior. He had also cut himself while punching the windshield. . He refused to cooperate with deputies, and tried to drive away., but was prevented from doing so through the use of stop sticks. .

After the man was arrested, a deputy searching the truck cab found a woman inside lying face down. Medics were called to the scene, but Candice Thompson, 46, also of Sicklerville, was pronounced dead. .

The Maryland Medical Examiner’s Office said Thompson died from blunt force trauma.

Watley was charged with her death. He’s currently being held without bond.

A preliminary hearing for Watley is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1st. .

Detectives say Thompson and Watley were in a dating relationship, and had a history of domestic violence in New Jersey with the Winslow Township Police Department.

On Friday, the Grand Jury also indicted Vittorio Franco Rocco Lane, 37, of Frederick for 2nd-degree burglary, 4th degree storehouse burglary, and theft of $1500 for an incident which occurred on July 11th, 2023.

These indictments move these cases to the Circuit Court where trial dates will be scheduled.

The Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office sys indictments are documents alleging criminal conduct, and all defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
