Residents Urged To Avoid Waterways Affected Sewage Overflow

They’re located in northern Frederick County.

Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Health Department is advising residents to avoid the waters of Flat Run, Toms Creek and the Monocacy River downstream from Toms Creek. Officials say this is due to a sewage overflow into the waters in the vicinity of Creamery Road in Emmitsburg.

Officials say swimming and total immersion in these waterways should be avoided. Residents who come into contact with these waters should wash themselves thoroughly with soap and warm water, especially before eating.

Boating and fishing are still permitted. The Health Department says the fish may be safe to eat if cleaned, scaled and cooked.

These waterways should be avoided until Wednesday, November 29th, 2023, the Health Department advises.
