Shots Fired At Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy Following Traffic Stop In West Virginia

Jefferson County, WV. (BW)- A Jefferson County Sheriff’s Deputy was shot at after pulling over a suspect in West Virginia, Wednesday, Nov 29.

Sergeant Vincent Tiong pulled over a vehicle on Old Leetown Pike near Dove Hill Road for speeding around 5:26 p.m. The suspect was identified as David Bernard Gillis.

As Tiong was running the suspect’s information, Gillis fled on foot, firing shots at Tiong, but only hitting the side of his cruiser.

Additional units were called in from eight different law enforcement agencies and a man hunt began.

At around 6:25 p.m. Gillis was found and apprehended at an address on Darke Lane, approximately one mile from the location of the traffic stop.

He is charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder and The Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.

He is being held at Eastern Regional Jail. The investigation is ongoing.
