Frederick County Officials Send Letter Of Concern To Governor

They asked to maintain full funding of the U.S. 15 project.

Frederick, Md. (BW)- The Frederick County Delegation, along with Frederick County Executive Jessica Fitzwater, sent a letter of concern to Governor Wes Moore and Secretary of Transportation Paul Wiedefeld on Monday, Dec 4 asking for the administration to maintain full funding for the U.S 15 project.

The Maryland Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday it’s proposal to cut the project’s funding by nearly $106 million.

Full funding for this project was originally approved in the state’s FY 2022 – FY 2027 CTP.

The letter stated that since 2014, improving safety on U.S Route 15 has been the most important transportation project in the county.

It’s reported that between 87,000 and 110,000 vehicles travel on U.S Route 15 daily… and by 2043 that number is expected to increase by between 121,4000 and 182,100 vehicles.

In the letter, officials asked “that the State of Maryland follow through on its commitment to the project.”

Construction for this project is set to begin in 2026.
