Fatal Double Shooting In PG County Has Frederick Connection

A child who was killed is from Frederick.

Suitland, Md (KM) One of the persons fatally shot on Sunday in Prince George’s County in a domestic-related murder-suicide was from Frederick.

PG County Police say at around 1:00 PM, officers responded to the 1200 block of Mercantile Lane in Suitland for a welfare check. They found a man and a boy in a car suffering from gunshot wounds. A preliminary investigation determined that Kenneth Petty, 38, of Suitland shot and killed his son, Sterling Glover Petty, age two, who was from Frederick, and then turned the gun on himself..

Police say the motive is still under investigation.

A Frederick News Post report says Kenneth Petty was issued a final domestic violence protective order on December 6th by a Frederick County Circuit Court Judge, but it’s unknown who sought order. He was also ordered to stay away from any child care providers and surrender any firearms.

Petty was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday  for a final protective order hearing, but that’s been canceled.
