Police Canine Sweeps Conducted Thursday At Two Frederick County Public Schools

The two schools were put on a ‘hold’ status

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick Police and the Sheriff’s Office conduced two unannounced canine sweeps at two schools on Thursday.

Officers and their dogs conducted the sweeps at Urbana High School and the Frederick County Career and Technology Center. The Sheriff’s Office say they were looking for substances and items which are not permitted in schools.

During that time, both schools were placed on a “hold” status. That means students and staff had to clear the hallways while the sweeps were underway. . They had to remain in the room or area they were in until the “all clear” was announced.

Business continued as usual at each school. .

The Sheriff’s Office and Frederick Police say they will continue to do unannounced sweeps throughout the year as a way to maintain a safe environment at county high schools.
