Plastic Bag Ban In Frederick City Begins In 2024

Businesses can hand out paper bags to customers.

Frederick, Md. (BW)- Businesses in the City of Frederick will be banned from providing plastic bags to customers beginning Jan 1, 2024.

The Frederick Board of Alderman voted unanimously on Thursday, May 4 to ban single use plastic bags in the new year.

Businesses can provide customers with paper bags at no additional fee. Customers are also encouraged to bring their own reusable bags from home.

This ordinace aims to reduce plastic pollution in the area and protect the health of residents.

Anne Arundel County passed a similar law for grocery stores, which will also start on Jan 1.

Prince George’s County passed a law banning plastic bags in retail stores and added an extra 10-cent charge for each paper bag provided to a customer.
