Frederick Police Searching For Murder Suspect

Frederick, Md. (The City of Frederick) – “The Frederick Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating Hakeem Earnest Sampson (DOB 01/02/1997). Sampson is wanted as a suspect in the 1st-degree murder of Michael Isaih Olaniyi, which occurred on July 23, 2022, in the 300 Block of North Market Street.

Hakeem Earnest Sampson, approximately 5’05” and 240lbs, is currently evading law enforcement, and his last known address is Washington, DC. FPD detectives have charged two suspects in connection with this case; one is awaiting trial, while Sampson remains at large.

At approximately 3:30 a.m. on July 23, 2022, an FPD officer patrolling the North Market Street area heard a gunshot in the 300 Block of North Market Street. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer discovered Michael Isaih Olaniyi, 26, of Montgomery Village, suffering from a gunshot wound. Despite immediate medical attention, Mr. Olaniyi was pronounced deceased shortly after reaching the hospital.

This investigation was assigned to the Frederick Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division – Major Crimes Unit. Through evidence and information obtained, detectives identified a vehicle being used by two suspects involved in the homicide to be a black Maserati Ghibli with a Virginia license plate. As the investigation progressed, detectives were able to positively identify the owner of the Maserati as, Benjamin Michael Johnson. Evidence collected by detectives showed Johnson possessing a firearm minutes before the homicide occurred, it showed Johnson driving the second suspect, believed to be Hakeem Earnest Sampson, to the victim. Detectives believe Johnson transported Sampson to the area of O Street in NW Washington DC.

On 12/13/2022, an arrest warrant was issued for Johnson for his involvement in this case, charging him with:

– Accessory after the fact to 1st degree murder
– Accessory after the fact to 2nd degree murder
– Possession of handgun on person
– Possession of handgun by convicted felon (2 charges)

Johnson was arrested on 12/22/2022.
