Injured Hiker In Frederick County Rescued By Maryland State Police

The hiker was extricated on Friday afternoon.

Thurmont, Md. (BW)- A man was rescued after becoming injured while hiking in Frederick County on Friday, Mar 15.

The 23-year-old hiker was climbing Chimey Rock at Catoctin Mountain State Park when he got a severe leg injury.

Maryland State Police was called in for an aerial rescue. The man was successfully airlifted from the ground and flown to Meritus Medical Center near Hagerstown for the treatment of his injuries.

Fire and Rescue units from the Thurmont area were the first to arrive to the scene. They determined an aerial rescue was needed.
