Hagerstown Man Arrested For Attempted Arson

Hagerstown, Md. (BW)- A man caught pouring gasoline on a car in Hagerstown was arrested and charged for threat of arson.

Hagerstown Police, the Hagerstown Fire Department and the City of Hagerstown Fire Marshal were dispatched to Grandy Dancer Court around 1 p.m. Sunday, April 7 for a reported arson-in-progress.

The 911 caller reportedly saw a man in a dispute with his family pour gasoline on the car, part of a home and some individuals. According to a Press Release from the Hagerstown Fire Department, the man couldn’t find a lighter.

The man was identified as 29-year-old Luis Rodriguez.

When units arrived at the scene, Rodriguez and the vehicle were gone. He was later found at a car wash, rinsing the gasoline off the car.

Rodriguez admitted that he was planning to light the car on fire after a disagreement with the vehicle’s registered owner.

Rodriguez was charged with two counts of treat of arson and reckless endangerment.

He was taken to the Washington County Detention Center where he was later released on bond.
