A total of 226 fire fighters will be remembered.
Emmitsburg, Md (KM) A total of 226 fire fighters who died in the line of duty will be honored during the 43rd National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial Weekend May 4th and 5th, including one from Frederick County.
The National Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation says Battalion Chief Christopher Morlan, 46, died on December 31st, 2021 from complications due to COVID-19. There are six other fire fighters from Maryland who will also be honored.
Those who will be remembered include 89 who died in the line of duty in 2023. and 137 who died in previous years.
The ceremonies will be held at the National Emergency Training Center, 16855 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg, Maryland.
A candlelight vigil will take place on Saturday, May 4th beginning at 7:30 PM, hosted by Fire Captain Garon Mosbly of the St. Louis Fire Department. The Memorial Service will take place on Sunday, May 5th starting at 10:00 AM. It will hosted by actor Jeremy Holm.
“National Fallen Fire Fighters Memorial is a time for our nation to pause and reflect on the heroic effort and selfless service of the fallen fire fighters we are paying tribute to this year,” says National Fallen Fire Fighters Foundation CEO Victor Stagnaro, in a statement.. “We will always remember the bravery, commitment, and sacrifices of each of those 226 heroes–and their families.”
