Daytime shelter provides a range of services and assistance to the homeless community.
Frederick, Md (JK) -People experiencing homelessness can seek shelter, meals, clothing and a place to connect at the Salvation Army Day Shelter located at Grace United Church of Christ. The facility includes access to mobile case management, health services, and programming from partnering agencies. The Salvation Army of Frederick County and Frederick Rescue Mission have joined together to address this critical need for our community.
The Day Center was envisioned from the 2019 Downtown Safety and Services Initiative, which identified a need in the area. It found that homeless people in downtown Frederick had no place to go during the day.
This program is made possible by collaborative efforts of funders and organizations in the Frederick community. The Ausherman Family Foundation, The Community Foundation of Frederick County, the Mark and Susan Butt Saturday Mornings Fund, and Frederick Rescue Mission. Other partners include the Religious Coalition for Emergency Human Needs and the Frederick Community Action Agency.
The day shelter will keep people warm during the winter months and prevent frostbite and hypothermia; offer a “cooling center” in the summer months to prevent hyperthermia, dehydration, heat stroke, and heat exhaustion; and serve as a place where agencies can perform outreach and engage people in social, health, and employment services. This collaborative effort will have a strong impact on the lives of people experiencing homelessness.
The Day Center is in the Grace United Church of Christ at 25 East 2nd Street, and is open 8 A-M to 3 P-M, Monday through Friday. The Salvation Army would like to speak with anyone who can donate or volunteer.
