Hagerstown, Md (KM) A Hagerstown man is charged with making a threat of mass violence and two counts of arson threat following his arrest on Wednesday. Michael Sean Hafer, 28, was taken into custody for making a threat to blow up and burn down the Motel Six where he was staying.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office says Hafer told other guests he was going to burn down the motel at 11321 Massey Boulevard, and that he was making pipe bombs in his room to carry out the destruction.

The Washington County Sheriff’s  Office responded to the motel at 7:30 AM on Wednesday after Hafer made the threats, and asked for the State Fire Marshal’s Office Bomb Square to respond.

After securing the necessary search warrants, investigators searched Hager’s room. They said Hafer did not have any explosive material, and guests were allowed to return to their rooms.

Hafer was taken to the Washington County Detention Center, and released on recognizance.
