Malcolm Muhammad Edwards charged with arson and theft
FREDERICK, Md. (August 16, 2024) – On Friday, August 9, 2024, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office
(FCSO) obtained an arrest warrant for Malcolm Muhammad Edwards, age 36, of Frederick, MD in
connection to the arson and theft on May 29, 2024, at Hi Lo Auto Sales in Frederick, MD.
On May 29, 2024, at approximately 2:56 AM, Deputies and the Frederick County Division of Fire and
Rescue Services were called to the business in the 5000 block of Urbana Pike for a commercial alarm
call. Upon arrival, deputies saw smoke coming from the building. The fire was contained and ruled as
arson by the Frederick County Fire Marshal’s Office.
Detectives later learned that a 2019 Ford F-150 truck was stolen from the store and recovered in the
Potomac River in Washington County, MD.
During their investigation, Detectives identified Edwards as the primary suspect. Edwards is currently
serving time on an unrelated offense with the Maryland Department of Corrections. Once Edwards’
sentence is complete, the FCSO charges will be served.
“This was a totally senseless criminal act of arson and destruction to this local business. The enormous
amount of property damage, loss from the theft, and monetary loss from the disruption of the business
operation has had a major impact on this family-owned used car dealership,” Sheriff Chuck Jenkins.
This case was investigated by the Frederick County Fire Investigation Task Force. The Task Force is a
partnership between the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the Frederick County Division of Fire and
Rescue Services Fire Marshal’s Office.
The suspect is charged with:
-Motor Vehicle / Unlawful Taking
-Second Degree Arson
-Second Degree Burglary
-Theft $1,500 to under $25,000
