Frederick, Md (KM) Some renovation work is expected to take place at Harry Grove Stadium. The City of Frederick made that announcement on Friday, and said it will work in partnership with the Maryland Stadium Authority, and Attain Sports, the owner of the MLB Draft League Frederick Keys.
The venue was built in 1990 as a state of the art facility, but it requires significant improvements to bring it up Stadium Facilities Standards set by the MLB Player Development League, the city says.
The Maryland Stadium Authority has granted approval for about $39-million in targeted renovations for Harry Grove Stadium. A news release from the City of Frederick says it has, along with the MSA and Attain Sports, have selected Whting-Turner Contract Company with partner Diversity Architectural Consulting to provide the renovations. Also, the city says, the Canopy Team will assist Attain Sports and the City through the design process.
The City says the design work on the renovations is expected to span into 2025, with the construction component extending into 2026.. This work is not expected to disrupt the playing season.
“We are confident that this investment will not only extend the life of a 34-year-old venue that has been an important part of our community, but also generate positive incremental economic benefits for the city, develop young professional athletes in the state of Maryland and allow families to attend a sporting venue that is safe and that they can take pride in for years to come,” said Frederick Mayor Michael O’Connor, in a statement.
“The investment in Harry Grove Stadium is critical to enabling Attain Sports to bring an affiliated MLB team back to Frederick,” said Greg Barano, CEO and Managing Partner, of Attain Sports, in a statement.. “We are grateful for the State’s investment in local baseball through the MSA, and are thrilled that Harry Grove Stadium will continue to be a source of family entertainment and a strong economic asset to the Frederick community.”
City officials say the goal is to accommodate an MLB affiliated Minor League Baseball team in the near future. The Frederick Keys play their home games at Harry Grove Stadium The Keys were a minor league affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles from 1989 to 2020,, but are now part of the MLB Draft League.
