The Council was presented with an update on the calendar and process on Tuesday.
Frederick, Md (KM) The process of putting together a legislative package for Frederick County for 2025 is underway. Sarah Price, the County’s State Government Relations Associate, says under Charter Government, the County Executive advances the state legislative priorities for the General Assembly. But Price says the Legislative Package will include the entire county, not just the County Executive’s proposals..
During a briefing before the Council on Tuesday, Price said the the County Executive will be reviewing ideas from the county’s divisions and departments, along with community and civic organizations, municipalities, and other organizations. “As you may know on the calendar, we are requesting that the County Council provide us with legislative ideas and initiatives by October 9th. This deadline is to ensure that we may finalize our legislative package and present it to our Frederick County State Delegation by early November,” she said.
The County Executive is scheduled to hold a town hall on Monday, October 7th beginning at 6:00 PM at Winchester Hall where public comment will be received.
Price says the next step is to have the County Council finalize the 2025 Legislative Package by the end of October so it can be sent to the State Delegation by early November. “We aim to send the legislative package to the Delegation early November because the General Assembly requires pre-filed drafting requests to be put in by November 1st.. And the last day to introduce a pre-filed bill in November 20th,’ she says.
The Legislative Delegation is scheduled to hold its own public hearing on Frederick County’s 2025 Legislative Package on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 at 10:00 AM in the first floor hearing room of Winchester Hall. The Maryland General Assembly gavels into session on Wednesday, January 8th, 2025.
