It comes from Special Olympics North America.
Frederick, Md (KM) It’s a special honor for a local high school. Catoctin High School in Thurmont has received national banner recognition from Special Olympics North America for its efforts to provide inclusive sports and activities for students with and without special needs. Frederick County Public Schools says Catoctin earned that recognition by meeting ten standards of excellence in areas of inclusion, advocacy and respect.
“We are so proud of Catoctin High earning this national honor,”: says Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Dyson, in a statement. “All students should have the ability to excel and enjoy physical education activities, and our schools are proud to chose to include students in activities.”
Catoctin High is the third Frederick County Public School to earn this national banner recognition. The other schools are Twin Ridge Elementary School and Tuscarora High School.
Along with Urbana High, Governor Thomas Johnson High and Tuscarora High, Catoctin High also earned the 2024 Special Olympics Maryland Unified Champion school status.
The School System says Special Olympics Maryland is a long time partner with Frederick County Public Schools, and provides opportunities for students to get involved in physical activities.
