Baltimore, Md (KM) A campaign is underway by the Maryland Department of Health and the Baltimore Ravens which addresses  the stigma of addiction. It contains an advertisement featuring Ravens tight end Mark Andrews. He says many people struggling with addiction may feel alone.

“Addiction is a medical condition, and stigma keeps people from reaching out,” Andrews says in a public service announcement.

Andrews encourages residents who are struggling with addiction to reach out for help. To learn more, they can go on line to StopOverdose.maryland.gov, or call 988.

“We will always embrace meaningful opportunities that help improve Maryland communities through awareness, education and advocacy,” says Raven Chief Sales Officer Kevin Rochlitz, in a statement.. “This vitally important campaign addresses a serious issue affecting the health and well being of many people every day. We salute the Maryland Department of Health for its continued commitment to saving lives and driving positive change.”

In the 12 months ending in June, there were 2,030 fatal overdoses in Maryland, according to the Health Department’s new Overdose Data Dashboard. Based on initial data, fatal overdoses in Maryland have been on the decline in recent years.

“No one should be made to feel alone. There is hope, and there is help available. Team up, Maryland,” says Andrews as the public service announcement ends.

The Department of Health says this ad campaign is expected to continue until October 27th.
