The fatal accident happened by the Harpers Ferry train station
Sandy Hook, Md. (DG) – Two pedestrians lost their lives Tuesday evening after being struck by a MARC train in southern Washington County.
Officials say the victims were walking on the tracks near Sandy Hook, east of the Harpers Ferry station, when Train 875 hit them around 6:15 p.m. The train was en route from Washington, D.C., to Harpers Ferry, West Virginia, with about 100 passengers onboard.
Those passengers were transferred to another train to complete their journey. Maryland Transit Administration officials say the incident remains under investigation.
