Frederick County Woman Sentenced for Stealing from School Fund Supporting Special Needs Students

Rebecca Mae Main, 65, pleaded guilty on March 6 to one count of theft scheme between $1,500 and $25,000.

FREDERICK, MD (JK) – A woman has been sentenced to jail and ordered to repay thousands of dollars after stealing from a Frederick County Public Schools fund intended for students with disabilities.

65-year old Rebecca Mae Main was sentenced Thursday in Frederick County District Court to 15 days in jail and five years of supervised probation according to the Frederick News-Post. She must also pay $23,800 in restitution to FCPS. The court found that Main stole the funds while working as an administrative secretary at Rock Creek School, which serves students with severe intellectual and physical disabilities.

According to prosecutors, Main wrote and deposited roughly three dozen checks to herself between 2020 and 2023, claiming the payments were reimbursements for school-related expenses. However, there were no records justifying the transactions.

Main pleaded guilty in March to a theft scheme charge involving between $1,500 and $25,000. During Thursday’s hearing, prosecutors described her actions as “a brazen and continuous course of conduct.” Although she cited personal medical and financial struggles, the judge emphasized that hardship does not justify theft.

In addition to her sentence, Main is barred from returning to Rock Creek School or any other FCPS property. She may seek early termination of her probation if she repays the full restitution amount.
