Deadly 5-Vehicle Accident Under Investigation In Howard County

Crash injured Maryland State Trooper

Frederick, Md. (DG) – A deadly five-vehicle crash involving a Maryland State Trooper is under investigation in Howard County.

Authorities say the crash occurred around 2 a.m. Sunday on southbound I-95, just north of Route 100. The driver of a Jeep Cherokee, 30-year-old Saidou Zanguina of Columbia, was pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Jeep was rushed to Shock Trauma. Investigators say the Jeep struck a stationary, unmarked patrol vehicle on the left shoulder, triggering a chain reaction involving a GMC pickup, a Lincoln SUV, and a Volkswagen. Several people, including the trooper and the GMC driver, were taken to area hospitals.

The trooper has since been released. Lanes were closed for about four hours.

The cause remains under investigation.
