Hagerstown, Md (KM) A large crowd of first responders, police canine partner Basco and others were on hand Tuesday as Hagerstown Police K9 Officer Langley Dean was released from Meritus Medical Center. He was taken there last week after he was shot while responding to a domestic incident in the 700 block of Forrest Drive that led to an hours-long standoff.
He was transported to the hospital by the same ambulance had responded to a victim of the domestic incident.
Hagerstown Police say Officer Dean spent five nights in the hospital and had two surgeries. He has a significant injury to his arm, and doctors anticipate he will have to undergo several months of recovery.
As he was being transported outside the hospital in a wheelchair, the crowd cheered him. Officer Dean responded when asked if he had anything to say. “Thank you,” he said. “Staff has been excellent I appreciate everything . It was good from the very get-go. I appreciate it. To everybody.”
Officer Dean will be recovering at his home with his family and his canine partner, Basco.
