One of the charges is sexual solicitation of a minor.
Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick Police Officer has been charged in Pennsylvania with two counts of solicitation of a minor, and one count each of possession of child pornography and criminal use of a communications facility. Chief Jason Lando with the Frederick Police Department says these are “deeply troubling allegations involving an officer of our agency.” identified as Corporal James Dodson.
“The conduct alleged against Mr. Dodson is despicable, inexcusable and fundamentally contradicts the oath of every police officer in our department,”: says Lando. He made his comments in a You Tube video.
The Frederick Police Department says in August, 2024, an officer became aware of possible criminal misconduct. and reported it to his command staff. Because these allegations occurred in Pennsylvania, the State Police there were notified and began a criminal investigation.
The State Police in Pennsylvania filed the charges against Dodson on Monday. “Effective immediately upon Monday’s charges being filed, Mr. Dodson’s suspension remains in place pending the outcome of the criminal matter. And let me be clear: if these allegations are proven true in a court of law. Mr. Dodson will no place in law enforcement or within the Frederick Police Department family. Accountability will be delivered, and justice will take its course,” Chief Lando says.
As part of being relieved of duty, Dodson’s police powers have been suspended. His badge has been secured, along with his service weapon, and his department vehicle.
In response, the Frederick Police Department is conducting an administrative review, working with the Montgomery County Police Department. The Department says it will share information with the public once this process is completed.
“I am proud of the thousands of law enforcement professionals, both sworn and civilian, who show up every day determined to do the right thing for the right reason,”: says Lando. “No one hates a corrupt cop more than a good cop. The men and women who honor this badge understand that a single act of corruption diminishes every act of service and erodes the trust they have worked so hard to earn.”
A news conference on this matter will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 4:00 PM outside of the Frederick Police Department headquarters at 100 West Patrick Street.
