Frederick, Md (KM) Maryland State Police have charged two Howard County men in connection with a fatal shooting along Interstate 70 in the Mount Airy area last month. Jeffery Josue Diaz, 24, of Columbia, and Francisco Javier Sanchez-Juarez, 28, of Elkridge are both charged with 1st-degree murder. Both men were arrested on Sunday, June 29th without incident. They are currently being held without bond at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
At 11:55 PM on Saturday, June 14th, state troopers responded to a report of a shooting along I-70 near Route 27. They found a pickup truck with six occupants. One was Eduardo Alexander Alvarado Urrea, 20. of Silver Spring. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the pickup was taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds. Another passenger declined treatment. Three others were not hurt.
State Police say the six occupants in the pickup truck were fired upon shortly after leaving an event at the Frederick Fairgrounds.
The Homicide Unit of the Maryland State Police conducted an investigation and identified Sanchez-Juarez and Diaz as the suspects. Assistance was provided by the Maryland State Police Digital Forensics Lab, Criminal Enforcement Division, Forensic Science Division, Special Operations Division, and The Waterloo, Golden Ring and Frederick Barracks. The Frederick Police and Howard County Police Departments also provided their assistance.
