Frederick, Md (KM) Ground was broken on Tuesday for a new Yellow Springs Elementary School.
The Frederick County School System says the new facility at 1000 Spring Run Drive will have the capacity for 745 students when it opens next year.
It replaces the current Yellow Springs Elementary School at 8717 Yellow Springs Road which first opened in 1957. This new school building will add 300 seats. .
“I feel energized and excited as I look behind me and seen the progress unfolding on this new school campus”‘ says Superintendent of Schools Dr. Cheryl Dyson, in a statement. “This isn’t just about construction. It’s about opening pathways to immediate possibilities and shaping bright futures.”
School System officials say this new Yellow Springs Elementary will serve as a prototype for future elementary school construction projects in Frederick County. That includes the future Frederick County Public School Number 41 in the New Market area set to open in the 2026-2027 school year.
Other projects which will support students during the upcoming 2025-2026 school year include a replacement Valley Elementary School; a replacement Green Valley Elementary School; renovations at Spring Ridge Elementary School; and renovations at Ballenger Creek Elementary School.
