Frederick, Md (KM) The South Mountain Creamery Ice Cream Shop and Pizza in downtown Frederick is closing after eight years. . The last day of operation is Sunday, August 24th.
The company says it decided not to renew its lease on the property along Carroll Creek and Market Street.
“We’re grateful to our local customers those last years and have enjoyed being part of the Downtown Frederick scene,” says Tony Brusco, South Mountain Creamery CEO. in a statement.. “As we look to the future of South Mountain Creamery, we’re excited to better serve our customers through our growing home delivery and wholesale services, and through memorable experiences and events at our farm.”
In that same statement, South Mountain Creamery says it will concentrate its efforts on home deliveries, its wholesale services and farm experiences, and the downtown Frederick shop is not in keeping with those goals. But customers will be able to purchase South Mountain Creamery products at many retail outlets. .through home delivery. and at Karen’s Kountry Store which is South Mountain Creamery’s on-location farm store in Middletown.
South Mountain Creamery is Maryland first on-the-farm dairy processing plant, starting operations in 2001. They own and farm roughly 3,000 acres in Frederick County where they milk around 600 dairy cows, including Holsteins and Jersey breeds.
South Mountain Creamery also provides home delivery services consisting of online farmers market that delivers to 10,000 customers across Maryland, DC, Northern and Southeast Virginia, and parts of West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Delaware and North Carolina.
