Frederick County Health Department Searching For Dog Who Bit A Man

Frederick, Md (KM)  The search is on for a dog who bit a man on Monday afternoon.

The Frederick County Health Department says at around 5:00 PM, a man was walking in the area of Waterside Drive and Blue Heron Drive when the dog bit him. The canine was on the loose and unaccompanied.  Neighbors say they have frequently seen this dog running loose.

The dog is described as a hound mix, brown and black in color, weighing about 45 pounds.

If you have information on this dog or its owner, you’re asked to contact Frederick County Animal Control. at 301-600-1544. Officials say they need to determine the dog’s health ten days after the bite. If the dog is in good health, it can resume its normal activities, and the victim will not need to undergo expensive rabies treatment. If the owner is not contacted, the victim will be advised to get treatment for rabies.

The Health Department says if someone or a pet has been bitten or scratched by an animal, get the owner’s name, address and phone number, and call Animal Control at 301-600-1544. IF the animal is wildlife, call the Environmental Health Services at 301-600-1717,   If you have been exposed to an animal confirmed or suspected of having rabies, call Community Health Services at 301-600-3342.
