Two Northwood High School Students Face Charges After Lockdown

One of the students charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

Gaithersburg, MD (JK) – Two 15-year-old boys are facing charges after a lockdown at Northwood High School in Montgomery County on Thursday.

The situation began just after 11 a.m. when police responded to a report of a person with a gun near the school on Old Georgetown Road. At that time, the school was placed in a “secure” status as officers investigated. That report turned out to involve a toy, and no arrests were made.

A second call came in about an hour later, reporting a student possibly carrying a firearm inside the school. Administrators placed the building on lockdown as police searched. Officers and school staff located two students in a classroom, where a gun magazine was found on a desk. A BB gun was recovered from one student, while a live 9mm round was found in the pocket of the other.

Police say one student is charged with possession of a dangerous weapon on school grounds. Both are charged with disrupting school operations. They were released to their parents after being processed at the 2nd District police station.
