Frederick Man Sentenced For Fatally Shooting Another Man

He was arrested for the offense last year.

Frederick, Md (KM) A Frederick man who pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder and a firearms offense is going to prison. The Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office says in Circuit Court on Wednesday, Elijah Stephen Mboss, 23, was sentenced to 45 years incarceration.  He must serve 13 years of that sentence in the Division of Corrections. . The judge suspended the remaining 32 years. .

Mboss will also be placed on five years of supervised probation after he completes his time behind bars.

Mboss was charged with 1st-degree murder and 2nd -degree murder for the shooting and stabbing death of Tristan Kyle Mahorney, 23, who is also from Frederick. It happened after the two men got into an fight at Country Hill Apartments on Heather Ridge Drive. on August 16, 2024.

Mahorney was taken to the hospital after the incident where he was later pronounced dead. The Medical Examiner’s Office said Mahorney’s death resulted from a stab wound.

That evening, Frederick Police Officers responded to the1000 block of Heather Ridge Drive for a possible shooting. While en route, they stopped a white Acura fleeing from the scene.. They observed the driver, identified as Mboss, covered in blood. He was also found in possession of a semi-automatic handgun, and a knife.

Mbarra was charged with 1st-degree and 2nd-degree murder for the incident.

On August 26th, 2025, Mbarra pleaded guilty to 2nd-degree murder and carrying a regulated firearm without a permit.  He was sentenced on those charges Wednesday.
