Federal Court Revokes Citizenship of Maryland Sex Offender

Justice Department says man concealed rape conviction to obtain naturalization.

Baltimore, MD (JK) – A U.S. District Court in Maryland has revoked the citizenship of Jorge Antonio Graciano Lara, a convicted sex offender. Federal prosecutors said Lara failed to disclose his criminal past when applying for naturalization.

Lara was convicted in 2017 of second-degree rape in Maryland state court after repeatedly sexually assaulting a girl under the age of fourteen over several years. The court determined he lacked the good moral character required for citizenship and had obtained it through false statements and misrepresentation.

The case was prosecuted as part of Operation Prison Lookout, a Justice Department and ICE initiative aimed at identifying and denaturalizing sex offenders who fraudulently obtained U.S. citizenship.
