Loys Station Covered Bridge Closed Due To Damage From Over sized Vehicle

Frederick, Md (KM) The historic Loys Station Covered Bridge is closed to traffic. Frederick County officials say the wooden span and the over-height warning portal on the south entrance were damaged late Sunday night or early Monday morning after an over-sized vehicle tried to drive through.

The driver fled the scene The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office is investigating.

Division of Public Works crews are making repairs to the bridge, and that’s expected to take about three weeks. As a result of this incident, Old Frederick Road between New Cut Road and Route 77 or Rocky Ridge Road will be closed. A signed detour is in place, according to county officials.

The county says the closure to make repairs to the Loys Station Covered Bridge will make traveling through the Rocky Ridge area difficult. Old Mill Road is closed as it is undergoing repairs from truck damage in December. The Maryland State Highway Administration says Route 77 was closed on Friday to replace a bridge.
