Five officers were treated for smoke inhalation
Hagerstown, Md. (DG) – Five police officers are recovering after being hospitalized following their quick response to a house fire Saturday evening in Hagerstown.
According to police, the officers were near Lee and Potomac Streets for the Mummer’s Parade when a citizen alerted them to a fire on East Lee Street around 6 p.m.
Flames were visible when they arrived, and before firefighters could get there, the officers forced their way inside to search for anyone trapped and used a fire extinguisher to fight the blaze.
No one was found inside, but all five officers were treated for smoke inhalation at Meritus Medical Center. One officer was later transferred to Johns Hopkins Bayview for further observation. The others remain at Meritus, according to police.
