Wrong Way Driver Apprehended Following Vehicle Chase On I-270 In Montgomery County

The pursuit began in Frederick County.

Clarksburg, Md (KM) Charges are expected to be filed against a man who drove the wrong way on southbound Interstate 270 Friday afternoon, causing a massive traffic backup.

Maryland State Police say a chase began in Frederick County when a vehicle was observed traveling on the southbound shoulder of northbound Route 15. A state trooper located the vehicle , and began a pursuit as the driver headed south in the northbound lanes of I-270.   The state trooper broke off the pursuit in the Urbana area.  A Sheriff Deputy continued the chase.

The pursuit ended near Clarksburg when the driver traveling in the wrong direction collided with another car.

Authorities say a man in the vehicle got out holding a child who was inside with him. Montgomery County Police contacted negotiators to resolve the situation. Officers used a taser on the man.

Police say the man was injured in the crash, but the child is  okay.
