New Deputy State’s Attorney For The Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office Sworn In

The ceremony took place on Monday.

Frederick, Md (KM) Joyce King has been sworn in as Deputy State’s Attorney for the Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office. The ceremony took place Monday before packed court room of elected officials.

King has been with the State’s Attorneys’ Office since 2013, and has been Chief Council since 2018. As a cross-designated Special Assistant US Attorney, King has pioneered Frederick County’s INTERCEPT Task Force since 2023. INTERCEPT stands for Inter-agency Child Exploitation and People Trafficking. She has also serves as Legislative Co-Chair of the Maryland Human Trafficking Task Force and sits on the Advisory board of the National Center of Missing and Exploited Children.

King has also been recognized since 2025 by  the National Filipino American Lawyers Association as  Attorney of the year in 2025

Also, She received the George Washington University, Elizabeth J. Somers Alumni Award in 2025.

Along with that, King was recognized by the Frederick County Commission for Women as  Woman of the Year in 2025.

And she was given the Maryland Coalition Against Sexual Assault, Visionary Award in 2025.

King earned her Juris Doctor from the University of the District of Columbia David A. Clarke School. of Law in Washington DC, and her undergraduate degrees from George Washington University and American University: Women in Politics Institute.

“Joyce is an exceptional lawyer and leader who will continue the tradition of great Deputy State’s Attorney’s here in Frederick County. I am blessed to have her as my second-in-command.” says State’s Attorney Charlie Smith, in a statement.

She has been a member of the Maryland State Bar since 2012, and began her service in Maryland under the Honorable, Judge John W. Debelius in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville, Md.
