Frederick, Md (KM) There’s some good news for the Weinberg Center. The Deleplaine Foundation has announced that it’s awarding a generous grant to the local venue. The funds will be used to make sure that high quality performing arts programs and educational initiatives continue to be available to audiences of all ages at the Weinberg, the Foundation says in a statement.

The money will also support the continued availability of live performances, outreach efforts, and community centered program at the 100-year-old venue. That includes a visit by Jeff Corwin on February 5th as part of the Frederick Speaker Series.

Funds will also be used to pay for Vets Night Out which grants free tickets to events at the Weinberg for veterans and their families.

The Foundation also says this grant is the first of three disbursements to restore the Weinberg Center’s Mighty Wurlitzer organ. It’s the only theater organ in is original installation in the state of Maryland.

“Just as the roots of the Delaplane Foundation run deep in Frederick. so too do those of the Weinberg Center.” says Delaplaine Foundation President Marlene Young, in a statement. “It’s pleasure and privilege for us to continue to support the Weinberg as a major cultural and economic anchor of Frederick through grant funding that provides the region with premier performing arts, music, theater, dance and classic films in addition to offering the community a first-class venue for hosting professional and community events and education programs. In addition continuing funding for the annual Vets’ Night Out, program in recognition of those who have served and sacrificed for our country, as well as our support that underwrites stellar speaker annually, through the Frederick Speaker Series, we are particularly pleased that in celebration of the Weinberg’s 100th Anniversary this year, we have awarded a multi-year grant for the restoration and preservation of the Weinberg’s famed Mighty Wurlitzer organ. Many of us who are native to Frederick County recall fondly when the Weinberg Center, originally known as the Tivoli Theater, provided exciting entertainment thanks to this astonishingly classic instrument that was used with silent movies and for concerts and sing-alongs.  In our support of the arts and historic preservation, we are honored to be a major supporter of ensuring that this grand and superb organ will be preserved for future generations.”
