ELLICOTT CITY, MD (JK) — A man wanted in connection with the fatal stabbing of his estranged wife in Ellicott City has turned himself in to police and is now facing murder charges.
Howard County police say officers were called around 8:13 a.m. February 8 to a home in the 3400 block of Huntsmans Run for reports of a stabbing. Investigators determined that 53-year-old Alexander Stephenson allegedly stabbed his wife, 47-year-old Amethyst Stephenson, before fleeing the scene. She was pronounced dead at the residence.
Authorities say the couple was estranged and Stephenson was not living at the home at the time of the attack. He is also charged with violating a protective order.
Police say Stephenson later surrendered at the department’s Northern District station. He was taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center for treatment of what were described as non-life-threatening, self-inflicted injuries.
Once released from the hospital, he is expected to be booked into the Howard County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
