Rockville, Md. (DG) – A deadly crash in Silver Spring has led to criminal charges against a teenager.
Montgomery County Police were called just after 11:20 a.m. on January 14th to the intersection of Lockwood Drive and Northwest Drive for a two-vehicle collision.
Investigators say a Lexus crossed a double yellow line to pass a stopped school bus and slammed into a Toyota in the intersection. The Toyota then lost control and hit a wooden utility pole. Fifteen-year-old Tayeba Rezaie later died from their injuries.
Police say the Lexus driver, 19-year-old Zaher Qais of Silver Spring, was at fault and now faces negligent manslaughter by vehicle and related traffic charges. He is being held without bond.
