Martinsburg, Md. (DG) – A youth basketball tournament in Berkeley County turned chaotic Sunday, ending with multiple arrests after a series of disturbances at the Randy Smith Center in Inwood, West Virginia. Deputies were on site providing security when they were called to intervene several times throughout the day.
Authorities say tensions escalated in the parking lot as the event wrapped up, involving 30-year-old Kieanna Veney, who allegedly became confrontational and resisted arrest after ignoring repeated warnings. She now faces charges including conspiracy to commit battery and obstructing an officer.
As a crowd gathered, the situation intensified when deputies say a man approached an SUV where a firearm was present. Investigators say 27-year-old Charles Pridgen pointed a handgun toward a group of people after an altercation, putting about a dozen individuals at risk. Deputies quickly secured the weapon and took him into custody. He now faces multiple charges, including wanton endangerment and possession of a weapon on school grounds.
Another man, Christopher Johnson Jr., is also charged with battery. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as they work to identify others involved.
