Rockville, Md. (DG) – A coordinated crackdown across parts of Maryland shut down multiple illegal car rallies over the weekend, leading to arrests, recovered firearms, and several juveniles detained. Authorities say the Maryland Car Rally Task Force launched the overnight operation Friday at 10 p.m., continuing into early Saturday morning across Prince George’s, Howard, and Montgomery counties.
Officials say large crowds-some reaching up to 300 people-had been gathering for exhibition driving, disorderly behavior, and even roadway shutdowns. Officers conducted high-visibility patrols in areas like Hanover and Elkridge to prevent those events from escalating.
During the enforcement effort, police arrested two adults, including 18-year-old Steven Cruze-Benetiz of Silver Spring, who faces multiple serious charges involving a firearm and assault. Nineteen-year-old Payton Frazier of Pasadena was also arrested and charged with resisting arrest.
Two 17-year-olds were detained as well, including one found with a loaded firearm. Authorities say the operation successfully disrupted the rallies and prevented further danger to the public.
