Frederick, MD (JK) – The Frederick Art Club will open its “Inspired by Claire” exhibit at City Hall of Frederick from May 3 through May 29, giving the public its first chance to see the collection in person.
The exhibit was originally planned as part of the club’s fundraising campaign for a bronze statue honoring Frederick native and famed fashion designer Claire McCardell. The fundraising campaign surpassed its goal, leading to the installation of a 7.5-foot bronze statue of McCardell in 2021 at the east end of Carroll Creek Linear Park. The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted the plans for a public unveiling, so the organizers forced to move the show to a virtual online platform.
Now, the artwork inspired by McCardell’s lasting influence on fashion will be displayed at City Hall, with an opening reception set for May 3 from 2 to 4 p.m. The exhibit features work from eight local artists, and all pieces will be available for purchase.
The exhibit is part of the City of Frederick’s rotating showcase of local artists and community partnerships. City Hall is open weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., except Memorial Day.
