Eldersburg, Md. (DG) – A late-night shooting at a restaurant in Eldersburg has led to the arrest of a Carroll County man, according to Maryland State Police.
Troopers say 52-year-old Matthew Hanks, of Sykesville, is facing charges including first-degree assault following the incident, which happened around 9:30 p.m. on April 24 along Liberty Road. When troopers arrived, they found two men suffering from apparent gunshot wounds outside the restaurant.
The victims, identified as 60-year-old Brooks Sandoval and 50-year-old David Hopwood, were taken to a nearby trauma center for treatment. Authorities also located Hanks outside the restaurant, where he was taken into custody without incident.
Investigators say the shooting occurred behind the restaurant following an altercation involving all three men, who are believed to have known each other. State police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
