A driver tied to a deadly 2023 crash that killed six construction workers on the Baltimore Beltway has now been sentenced for violating his probation.
Melachi Brown, 22, pleaded guilty to driving on a revoked license after officers stopped him for a broken taillight. Authorities say that stop revealed Brown was behind the wheel despite restrictions tied to his earlier conviction. Brown told officers he was trying to help a friend who had just left the hospital and could not drive.
A judge sentenced him to six years in prison followed by three years of supervised probation, calling him an extreme risk to public safety. The original crash happened in a construction zone on the Beltway, killing six workers, including victims from Frederick and Union Bridge.
Investigators say Brown and another driver, Lisa Lea, were both traveling more than 120 miles per hour at the time of the crash. Brown had previously served time and was released in 2024, and has been in custody since March 12th, 2026.
