JEFFERSON, MD (JK) – The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Calvert County man following an investigation into a commercial burglary and suspected arson earlier this month in Jefferson.
Deputies initially responded May 3 to a reported commercial burglary at a business in the 4100 block of Lander Road. Investigators say numerous items were stolen from the property, including a skid steer, zero-turn mower, flatbed trailer, machinery, construction materials, and tools.
The following day, May 4, deputies and Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services personnel returned to the same location after a building fire was reported. Fire Marshals and detectives determined the fire was likely intentionally set, leading investigators to suspect arson.
During the investigation, detectives learned some of the stolen property may have been transported to Calvert County. The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office coordinated with the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office, which located property matching the description of the stolen items on private property near Prince Frederick.
Investigators later developed information indicating the stolen property could be discarded or destroyed overnight. Detectives then obtained a search warrant for a property in the 100 block of Armory Road in Prince Frederick.
At approximately 3 a.m. on May 14, deputies from the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office and detectives from Frederick County executed the search warrant. Authorities say approximately $50,000 worth of stolen property connected to the burglary investigation was recovered.
34-year-old David Roberts of Prince Frederick was arrested at the scene and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
Roberts is charged with second-degree burglary, second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, and theft between $25,000 and $100,000.
The Frederick County Sheriff’s Office thanked the Calvert County Sheriff’s Office for its assistance during the investigation.
