Leesburg, VA (JK) – A Loudoun County grand jury has indicted a Leesburg man on additional charges connected to the death of his 8-month-old sister following a September 2025 assault.
The Leesburg Police Department announced that 22-year-old Alvaro Mejia Ayala was indicted Monday on charges including aggravated murder, first-degree murder, suffocation, felony murder by suffocation, abduction of a minor, and first-degree murder in the commission of abduction.
Police say officers responded September 17, 2025, to the 0 block of Hancock Place Northeast for an assault involving an infant. The 8-month-old girl suffered serious injuries and later died as a result of those injuries.
Ayala was originally arrested the same day and charged with strangulation. He remains held at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center pending further court proceedings.
Federal immigration authorities previously issued an ICE detainer for Ayala following his arrest. Authorities say no additional information will be released as the case continues through the judicial process.
