A Burtonsville man is behind bars in North Carolina, accused of killing his mother inside their Montgomery County apartment.
Police were called Saturday evening to the 3900 block of Blackburn Lane for a welfare check after 50-year-old Glenda Patricia Salamanca Reyes failed to report to work. Officers found her dead in the hallway with signs of trauma. Investigators say her son, 28-year-old Ricardo Adelso Colato Salamanca, had fled the scene in her white Jeep Compass.
The vehicle was tracked south on Interstate 95. An autopsy determined Salamanca Reyes died from multiple stab wounds. Detectives charged Colato Salamanca with first-degree murder and motor vehicle theft before U.S. Marshals arrested him Monday morning at a truck stop in Salisbury, North Carolina. He is awaiting extradition to Maryland.
