Frederick Police recovered multiple firearms and arrested a man after a high-risk traffic stop connected to an investigation in Washington County.
Authorities say a Washington County deputy alerted Frederick officers early Saturday morning that William Thompson was heading into the city with several illegal firearms. Deputies also reported Thompson may have discharged multiple guns before leaving his father’s property.
Using GPS tracking information and vehicle descriptions, officers located the vehicle near West Patrick Street before it accelerated away from police. Officers later found the vehicle in a McDonald’s parking lot and conducted a high-risk stop without incident. Thompson and a passenger were taken into custody safely. During a protective search of the vehicle, officers found a Glock 26 handgun sticking out of a backpack and later recovered two more firearms.
Thompson was taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and charged with several handgun violations.
