A Berkeley County murder case ended Tuesday with a lengthy prison sentence for 40-year-old Michael Taylor.
Authorities say Taylor was charged after deputies discovered the body of 46-year-old John Bernard Offenstein inside the basement of an Inwood home in January of last year. An autopsy determined Offenstein had been shot 27 times. Taylor was initially charged with first-degree murder and a firearms offense, but accepted a plea deal reducing the murder charge to second degree.
The judge sentenced Taylor to 50 years behind bars. He must also pay restitution for funeral expenses, vehicle damage tied to the investigation, and court costs.
